    How We Make It · The handle is the only part of the brush your customer holds for the entire application. We’re not going to pick a winner — we’re going to lay out the four material families exactly as they behave, and let you judge.

    “What’s the best handle?” arrives in briefs almost as often as the fiber question. We could answer it with a recommendation — but the honest truth is that every material family here is excellent at being itself, and which one belongs in your line is a call only your brand can make. What we can do is put the four families side by side, property by property, the way we see them behave at the bench and after a year in customers’ hands. The differences are the answer. Read them, and you’ll know.

    Wood

    In the hand: naturally warm to the touch; the classic, familiar presence of a brush. Weight is tunable by species — birch sits in the middle of the range, beech noticeably heavier, poplar-class woods lighter.

    Color and finish: painted solids, stains, natural grain under clear coat, gloss or matte lacquer. Color sits on the wood — which means finish quality decides everything about how it lasts.

    Water and washing: wood’s one obligation. Properly dried, sealed, and finished, it lives happily through routine washing; sealed only for appearance, it eventually cracks or lifts at the seams. The seal, not the species, decides.

    How it ages: honestly, by finish. A gloss lacquer shows dents — the coating whitens and can crack at the impact point — while matte and natural finishes age far more quietly, wearing in rather than wearing out.

    Volume and tooling: standard silhouettes need no tooling; a signature profile gets its own stored program — the two-roads fork we’ve described in full.

    Paper it carries: the strongest established sustainability documentation in the lineup — FSC-certified supply is mature and specifiable.

    Injection-Molded Plastics

    In the hand: lighter than wood at the same size; neutral temperature; surface texture is a design choice, from soft-touch matte to high gloss.

    Color and finish: the family’s signature route is molded-in color — the color lives in the material, not on it, so nothing chips, peels, or wears through, ever. But note the fork: plastics can also be painted or soft-touch coated, and then they follow coating rules like any surface — soft-touch in particular ages on its own clock.

    Water and washing: molded-in color is immune — no seal to maintain, no moisture pathway; daily washing and handbag life leave it unchanged. Coated plastic inherits its coating’s limits.

    How it ages: molded-in, the most uneventfully of the four. Its real risk isn’t aging — it’s first impressions: thin walls and cheap gloss read economy in any brand’s hands, while considered texture and proportion read clean and modern. The connotation is a styling outcome, not a material fate.

    Volume and tooling: the most dimensionally consistent handle there is — every unit is the same mold. Catalog molds cost nothing; a custom silhouette means tooling and its minimums.

    Paper it carries: recycled-content resins increasingly come with documentation of their own.

    Acrylic and Resin

    In the hand: two constructions, two weights, one look. A solid clear body is genuinely hefty — denser than wood — and that glass-like weight is part of the jewel effect. Hollow moldings run light, and take internal weight inserts when the brief wants substance.

    Color and finish: what no other family can do — translucency, suspended color, ombré depth, a polished jewel-like body. Color is three-dimensional, inside the material.

    Water and washing: immune, like its molded cousins.

    How it ages: high-polish clarity shows scratches more readily than any matte surface; the jewel look is beautiful and demanding in the same breath.

    Aluminum and Metal

    In the hand: the coolest touch of the four — metal transmits temperature, cold bathroom and all — and here’s the property that surprises: thin-wall aluminum tubes run genuinely light. That lightness reads sleek to one customer and hollow to another; weight, in this family too, is an insert decision. The true signature is the cool touch and a hairline-precise surface.

    Color and finish: anodized color is part of the surface, not a coating — it can’t peel the way paint does; brushing, matte, and metallic finishes hold detail no paint matches.

    Water and washing: immune.

    How it ages: where matte wood dents quietly, metal records its life visibly — dings and micro-scratches on a precise surface are more legible than on any other family.

    Volume and tooling: forming and anodizing run on their own processes and minimums; small-batch flexibility is the narrowest of the four.

    Weight is a separate decision from material — and the intuition runs backwards. A solid acrylic body outweighs birch; an aluminum tube is lighter than both.
